Who's the worst person you've met here and why? Pref an Outsider but if they've all been cool I'll open it up to whoever
I'm making a list
Bonus: if you guess a number between 1 and 100 and get closest to the one I'm thinking of I've got smth for you
I'm making a list
Bonus: if you guess a number between 1 and 100 and get closest to the one I'm thinking of I've got smth for you
no subject
You told me so
The goals you had
Why you persist
There was once a man who cared about bettering the world for his people
Bring him out hypocrite
You seething storming hypocrite
I challenge you to show me his potential because you've totally exhausted yours
π private
You disagree with my methods?
That is the price of getting what we want. If I want my people to be given the bare minimum of respect, they must force it.
So we force it. We are not a kind people, we are not a palatable people.
What we are is strong, and able to do so much more than anyone gives us credit for. You say I was once that man, but the real secret is the man before could never have seen it made manifest. That man was killed to make the man who could do it.
I'm not hiding anywhere, Kaladin. I cannot bring him out, because he is already here.. I'm what I had to be. This is precisely the one with potential. Not only that, it is the one that must exist to have it in hand. There was no other answer, only the results of the base violence necessary for change.
π unlocks his own response π
There is a difference between needing to fight back to survive and deriving a sense of pleasure from it
You're lost and I disagree with you as a man
You are an example to all here of what it means to be totally consumed by the selfish pursuit of power
If you can't revive the dead part of you that had sense then you should at least learn to defend your people against yourself
Better yet I'll do it for you
Don't you dare say the people of Zaun aren't kind or palatable
I come from a similar stock of oppressed men and women you speak of now and our strength comes from the traits you perceive to be weaknesses
Recognizing our limitations and pushing on despite them
Don't you put them down to prove a storming point to me
THE PETTIEST MOVE He locks it back π
It's funny that you speak to us when you have now met two of us. Jinx is everything that a Zaunite is. Everything that they could be, and more.
[ She's the ideal. Everything he puts into Zaun he put into one little girl. Is it really such a surprise that she is Like That? Silco was her father β he loved her so much β that does not mean he was a good father. In fact, much like the network name... ]
It's funny, because you are almost there. Our strength is in pushing on despite our limitations. In taking what makes us dirty little creatures to topside, and becoming stronger, and better. Surviving despite everything they do to us. Is it so shocking that we would become monsters to compensate? The only other choice was quiet complacency.
We already had that. It left us festering, and sick.
We're stronger now than we ever were before.
π unlocked
BLINKS RAPIDLY TO ENGAGE THE "UNLOCK" FEATUREβ )
I think that's the most overdramatic thing you've ever said to me which is shocking considering how long the list is
There is a choice between becoming a monster and quiet complacency
There are several
Why do you believe you can't exist somewhere in between
Unfortunately for you I do understand
Two people don't represent an entire population and in knowing human beings and all their virtues and flaws I will confidently assume for all to hear that you're lying
There is good in your people and you're misrepresenting them
Why can't we come together over what we agree on Silco
When you speak of pushing limitations and taking your people topside I am inspired
Then you lose me when you go on like a megalomaniac
π locked
LOCKS IT BACK because this is how it is ]
I believe it can't exist because it already almost got me killed, you fool. The place in the middle is where men are weak, and slaughtered in the streets. It's how a weak man can die, left to drift to the bottom of the river, and a monster must be reborn from the husk. I don't believe it, because I have seen it. I lived it.
You hear that we are unpalatable, and you think that I am insulting them. I know who we are. I see it, I breathe it. We live differently than the rest of you. We are strong people, we do not need to be looked on in any other way. We do not need you to like us. Or even understand us. You say that is my insulting them, but I am embracing us as we are. I know we are perfect, I have given my life to this place, and I would have time and time again. You mischaracterize me because you cannot see a world in which we are accepted. I understand that. I do. It is not for you to decide if we are or are not. It is ours to. Mine and Jinx's, and our people. Everyone who has grown up breaking backs and bones in the mines, who became sick from the gas in the fissures, who's been attacked by enforcers for the crime of existing, or wanting more than what they asked for.
I don't want to bring my people topside, you see. I want us to live where we are. We love it, where we are from. The fissures, the darkness, the way it all closes in. It's where we are at our best. It is where we are from. There is nothing I can ask for more than for us to continue independent of the boots on our throat or our profits being sold topside.
[ Ah, but would it be Chembarons, instead, who hold the reigns? Silco can control them, he thinks. He must. The strongest will survive, and make something from it. ]
π locked, he gave up... he's learning when to fuck off...
Excuse me if occasionally I toil under the impression that you're exaggerating to make a point
I still believe that because human beings wildly differ from one another
You can't speak for all of them
It's ridiculous because I agree with your dream for Zaun and I want that for my own world but we argue as if that's not the case
You simply don't believe me
Whatever I say you're content to see me as one of your countless enemies and push back against me
And for storming what
Zero gain
Nothing to show for it but spit and bile
I've had it
I can't keep dancing this dance with you
We're incompatible
π locked; CONGRATULATIONS KALADIN
Boy, I've never been in a battle in my life. The fights I've been could not have been called battles.
[ does he understand what this really is? Naw dog you can't tell him he has ptsd...]
You are correct about one thing, Kaladin. We are incompatible. Something I knew from the beginning.
Perhaps consider that your ire is my gain, in my own ways. I don't expect you to see it, but understand that it is for a reason. Just not one you're privy to.
π
It's
Well it's hard to explain Silco and I'm still learning about it myself but it doesn't need to be soldier against soldier
Haven't you been battling your whole life
With injury
With betrayal
With the very air you breathe
Acute stress on the body and mind can cause imbalances even illness
A broken bone that heals wrong but in the mind
Will you tell me what the reason is
You think I'm an idiot
You constantly call me a fool
So dumb it down for me
Even if I can't accept it I want to know
π
I hate to disappoint you, but I think you have projected your own issues onto me. I have experienced nothing of the sort.
[ you can never help someone who doesn't want to go to therapy. ]
As for a reason, perhaps, let me explain this in a metaphor.
You see, when I was a boy, there was a man who occupied the alley near where I lived. I was fairly young, but even I understood that what he did there was working quite well for him. He did not have to work the mines, and instead sat on the street, with a small tray in front of him, with three cups. Whenever the topsiders would inevitably come down looking for entertainment β of the illicit or dangerous sort β he would always call them over, and ask them for a coin in exchange for something of greater value if they played his game.
They would say yes, of course, because he would show them. Not just a single piece, but a piece that was worth ten times the amount. He would hold it in hand, and then, place it on the tray in sight. Most were swayed by the prospect, the game. He was finely dressed, and spoke quick. With the piece down on the table, they would hand their coin over, and he would put it beneath one of the cups.
Then he would begin shuffling them. They would listen to his words as he spoke, inevitably greed takes over, and they pay attention to the piece beneath the cup. He shifts them. He tells them a story. He insults them if they are of a particular sort to get worked up. Anything to make them distracted.
Then, he would ask them which cup it was under. They would guess, and inevitably, his quick fingers and quicker words would have disappeared the coin from every single cup, and they would have lost their investment, and walk away empty handed.
Occasionally, some would steal the piece on the tray, and do you know what they would find? That it was carved of wood, and painted with lacquer, shiny and new and gold. They would be left with nothing more than yet another worthless trophy for their inability to follow all of the pieces moving at once.
Does that explain the reason?
π
Silco I appreciate that you took the time to write this out for me
But I'm no good with metaphors
I think you're implying you're distracting me with one hand while getting to your business with another
Am I the idiot winding up with the wood coin
( pure of heart, dumb of ass )
π
Silco legit asking himself why did he even try ]
Such a simple read of the story.
Sometimes the fool, sometimes the wooden coin, and occasionally sometimes the cup. There is no one method that I use.
π
I thought you of all people would be the first to realize that
Is that the only thing that stood out to you about that man
I think he was impressive too
The methods he used took advantage of his situation and taught men not to underestimate him
But not through violence
They walked away poorer and he walked away richer
Both groups with the understanding he was the cleverer one
Thank you for telling me
π
he's right]Do you know why there was no violence? Just guess.
π
Okay
Is it because it was his home and he knew it better than they did
And was able to disappear
The men or women being cheated weren't familiar with the area and were outnumbered
π
π
Violence is righteous when it's in defence of oneself
It's a last resort yes but unavoidable sometimes
There are degrees to things
Spectrums
You weigh too heavily on one side
To an extreme that's unnecessary here
We must adapt to the situation we're in
π
It's also what loses a man everything, and forces him to start over. I weigh heavily because it is the only language that speaks. It's the only one that works. I know this because that other way is ineffective and poor. It leaves people starving and withering away while the fat and complacent feast on their shares too.
Here, too, I see it. They feast on our work, when all I ask is for them to pull their weight as well. They could be the monsters too, if they simply just tried.
no subject
If this is how you treat your comrades
By belittling them pumping them full of drugs and claiming to be above everyone then you're going to destroy morale and they're going to betray you
But that's a self-fulfilling prophecy for you isn't it
Silco human beings are possessed of facets
A small percentage feast on our work yes they'd let the world end to fill their stores
I wouldn't be surprised if they wrote the land off completely
That's what the rich have always done
But the civilians in this city are trying
I work with paramedics and firemen who do more for this world than you do every day
Even just the people volunteering or trying to help by simply staying indoors during the attacks
They're trying
Don't lump them all together like that's representative of anything more than your paranoid delusions
π
Oh yes, I do not doubt that they do more for this world. To their own detriment too. And how does this world reward them? Do they even have livelihoods that pay for their meals? Do they have comfortable places to live? While they save the man whose heart is giving out in the middle of his office, what home do your companions go to?
Once, I would have believed that there was value in that sort of work. Oh, but it's easy to believe it when it hasn't been challenged, isn't it?
No, I've seen how quickly it melts away, Kaladin. Your paramedics, your firemen? How many burn out? How many are left with nothing because they have lost their ability to care? How many of your fellow workers take their frustrations out when you aren't looking?
I suspect the number would surprise you. Because people so often will default to the person that they truly are deep down, where they try to conceal it.
π
But you don't Silco
The truth of the matter is you're scared to look at the positives
This is the last time we speak on this
We'll never agree and the breath we waste on each other is better spent elsewhere
( says it at least ONE MORE TIME )
π
[ God why is he so secretly edgey? ]
You are correct, however. We will never agree. Kaladin, it has never been my intention to convince you. Has it been yours to convince me?
π
I was trying to bridge a gap between us
Seek mutual understanding to better work together
Come to some kind of accord
Convincing you would've been a nice accident but I don't believe in those
That'd involve good luck and I have none
Honestly I did think you were trying to convince me
Or break me somehow
π
Oh, now breaking sounds a great deal more like me, actually.
That is quite the thought, isn't it?
π
Quite the useless thought
I'm already broken Silco the cosmere already beat you to it
π
