@DEFAULT_NAME, video
( there's a low hum at the start of the transmission, though it's hard to tell whether it's due to electrical interference or if it's from the throat of the creature staring down in the feed.
his arms are folded across his chest, and there's a mildly foreboding look on his face. or maybe that's just his default expression. who knows. )
Apparently, teamwork is a focal point of this "job".
( the memory of a playful, sultry voice and hands clasped over his lingers at the edge of his thoughts. persistent, yet far away.
he pushes it aside for now, to focus on this properly, ears pointed forward almost deliberately. )
I've pored through the documents LILITH provided on these... creatures that invade their world. But what of your opinions of them and their ways? What do you find least effective about our current strategies? How do you find our numbers and their chances thus far? I seek these answers as to understand our enemy better from those who have actually faced them, to focus my efforts more effectively. An initiative that benefits both you and the citizens.
( it's a little self-important, but whatever. it's only the truth. )

( the visible indifference doesn't deter shadow any. )
If LILITH knew better, they’d prioritize their protection no matter what these officials overseas deemed irresponsible.
( the tendrils of his memory dwindle like brief flashes of light before his eyes—ones that shadow manages to blink back with ease. )
It goes without saying that I'd rather not be ordered around. But I'm willing to cooperate with them and their decisions, if my goals are met. For now.

That makes two of us. It's a real pain in the neck, but not cooperating would probably be even worse. [ with a small huff, he kicks himself up into a sitting position, now staring down into his little holographic display. ] It's kinda like how GUN is back home, ya know? Sometimes playing along with them is your best bet.

( he expresses it without much love, but without any bitterness either. it's simply there in the sentence. )
I remember... enough about their methods. But what's the worst that LILITH could do to us, when this world is already in shambles?
( bro doesn't realize the full potential of the chip in his brain yet )

[ there's a slight emphasis on the our, because Sonic does think the fact that they managed to do that to the quote-unquote Ultimate Life Form is at least a little concerning. Even if Sonic bets he could beat Shadow in a footrace or a fight when push comes to shove, that doesn't change the fact that Shadow is supposedly immortal and practically invincible. He fell to Earth from space and survived. They still managed to somehow conduct invasive surgery on him without his body trying to spit the chip back out. Not yet, anyway.
Naturally, the possible retribution of a betrayal isn't what's holding him back. Sonic isn't actually afraid of any consequences - just wary of potential inconvenience. ]
That's not the point, though. Like you said, as long as we've got the same goals, it doesn't hurt to play along. Besides, unless the Chaos Emeralds show up, they're the only ones that know how to send us back.

a lack of fear for the consequences.
as he considers the implant, shadow rubs lightly at the inhibitor ring on his wrist. )
The Chaos Emeralds...
( a dramatic repetition. it's his specialty... )
With the way other Outsiders are describing these "Rifts", one would think they hold a similar power. It might be worth introducing the concept, or at least, attempt to control one ourselves.
no subject
I was thinking the same thing! So you do get good ideas sometimes.
[ go one conversation without antagonizing shadow challenge failed yet again... regardless, Sonic nods energetically. He'd been thinking for a while that the rifts weren't entirely dissimilar to Chaos Control, at least from his layman's perspective. Admittedly, they work in a much messier way, considering their residual energy seems to make people and the environment sick. Some kind of haphazard manmade copy, perhaps. ]
The Chaos Emeralds aren't the only things in the universe with that kind of power. There's gotta be some kinda similar energy powering the rifts and the kaiju. Heck, maybe the kaiju have it inside them to begin with.

shadow, meanwhile, simply glowers down at his display like there's an invisible cloud of negative energy behind him. )
Now that we've managed to agree on something, I'll be sure to toss you at the first Rift I see.
( for science. )
